Emotional and Logical decisions- how to make effective ones
“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.” -Anonymous
“It’s like a dream come true. I was waiting for this opportunity for years. However it is a very big change, and I am not sure how to decide on this one.” I was talking to Dinesh, a senior leader in a large multinational, who was thinking of starting something on his own.
Almost everyone goes through this situation a few times in their life. The key question is how do you decide? Do you take the risk and go for your dream?
“Yes! Go for it!” Is a very obvious answer. One must live up to their own dream! Isn’t it? As a third party, when you have nothing to gain or lose, it is very easy to provide this advice and motivation. However responsible advisors don’t take the easy path. Every dream is not worth dying for.
“Would you like to take an emotional decision or a logical one?” I asked. In such a case you can’t go by your heart or by your brain. You can choose either of them, it’s fine, but once chosen, stick to it.
In an emotional decision, do what you want to do. Do not even evaluate the options. Also do not worry about consequences. You are doing it just because you want to! The outcome doesn’t matter.
Whereas when you want to go logical, keep the emotions aside. Just evaluate the options and go for the best one!
Do you remember any such event?
